About

I'm Bob Castleberry a sysadmin in the Saint Louis Missouri area. If your interested in getting in touch with me you you can find me Twitter, Facebook, Linkedin or Flickr. I work for the hosting company Contegix as a Lead Engineer, meaning I assist other engineers and work tickets. I like classification systems as it is a descriptive shorthand to telling someone about you. If your into classification systems then here are my descripters: enfp, s, kinistetic, taurus. I think each of these says something about me and is reasonably in the ballpark. Below are some categories of interest for me and some general thoughts about them.

System Administration

I've been professionally working with computers since 1998. Throughout the years I've worked with many operating systems. My favorite system to work with has been Novell Netware 4. It was easy to set up, easy to manage and worked consistantly for years with minimum maintenance. Sadly they never got around to having a workable client and relying on your competitor (Microsoft) to supply your client OS proved to be an unwise strategy. In the last few years I've been spending a lot of time with Linux on the server side. I feel that Linux makes a very good server and really lives up to the hype as far as stability and functionality (as long as you put some thought in your design ahead of time). My current love/hate relationship has been with Apache Ofbiz, an open source erp system that is built around J2EE and Tomcat with tons of bells and whistles. I would like to get back into Lotus Notes but find that IBM is reluctant to sell me a single collaboration express license. My desktop OS of choice for the last three years has been OSX, it's like having a commercial Unix with all the nice open source tools easily accessible.

NLP, Hypnosis, Working with the mind

Back when I was in middle school I tended to spend quite a bit of time in the library. Our middle school had a pretty good library and all the geeky girls spent time in there so thats where I wanted to be. One of the books I picked up was on the physiology and function of the brain. I don't even remember the title or the author but that book sparked my imagination. I would want to research the brain until my Junior year of high school. I read everything on the brain I could get my hands on. Then my junior year I took "human anatomy and physiology" and like most of my classmates failed miserably. So being young and impressionable I switched up what I wanted to do to something that seemed more in line with my talents. Thus began my trek down the road of system administration.

In 2004 I discovered the work of a man named Richard Bandler. My girlfriend at the time happened to get her hands on some of his seminar videos. At the time neither of us had heard of him or any of his work (NLP, DHE, Hypnosis). Those first videos got me very interested and I proceeded to buy and read various books on the subject. Richard Bandler and those that have followed him are my heroes. They show us that we can adjust our minds to remove the roadblocks and become more excellent.
